“Find your passion” is probably the most overused phrase in response to someone who is unsure of what to do or who is not sated with their life. Passion is the intense desire and enthusiasm we have for something. If you’ve ever been in a quandary about what to do with your life, you’ve very likely been asked “what are you passionate about?”. This question seems to intimate that we should always seek to pursue what we are passionate about. Why? Because godly passion is the driving force and I believe it is God’s desire that we pursue and make an impact in a particular area and/or in ministry which we have been called to.
All through the Bible it is evident that our passions determine our purpose and for everyone who was passionate about something, God gave them the corresponding skill sets necessary to pursue that passion. In other words, our skills and what we are good at give us a hint of what we are/should be passionate about. Jesus himself was very passionate about helping people and he had the ability and skills for that in the fashion of power and anointing. We see this in Acts 10:38, which states that “how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power and he went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him”.
Identifying our passions and subsequently living our purpose brings fulfilment to our lives. Fulfilment is the highest level on the Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, and so it is very important to identify our passions
FULFILMENT OF PURPOSE
The principal reason I believe we should identify our passion is because it will lead us into our purpose. Passion gives us that drive to actualize our purpose. We can identify our passion by examining our skill sets and what we enjoy doing. In Exodus 31, we are introduced to Oholiab and Bezalel. Bezalel and Oholiab along with other skilled workers had a purpose in the making of the ark of the covenant. The Bible says that God filled them with wisdom, understanding, knowledge and all kinds of skills to make artistic designs. I am certain that the skills instilled in them generated a passion for artistic designs such that they became great at it and so God trusted them with the design of the ark.
ENDURANCE AND PERSEVERANCE
Along with our pursuit of purpose, are challenges and pain. These are there to discourage and deter us from accomplishing our purpose. Every great purpose includes challenges and obstacles, but the passions instilled in us keep us moving in our purpose. Jesus’ purpose was to redeem humanity and reconcile us to God. Though he suffered on his journey to redeem us, passion gave him strength to endure the pain and suffering till the end.
Finally, every one of us has great purposes for our lives. I pray that we will be able to identify our godly passions which will ignite our purpose and help keep us focused on the pursuit of purpose. In case you are finding it difficult to identify your purpose, look for your passions because I believe everyone is passionate about something. Once you have identified your passion, your purpose is linked to what you are passionate about. Pray for guidance as you seek to fulfil the purpose for which God made you for you will give account of it someday.

For me this is a very encouraging post. It helps me realize that being ‘secure’ and comfortable is not what matters at all if it comes at the expense of my passion and a fulfilling life. I’m jumping back into my passion with full force!

I heard a sermon many years ago, and that message has stayed with me ever since. The gist of the sermon was as follows:
First of all: figuratively speaking, if you were born with an ax in your hand, you can at least vaguely guess that your purpose may have something to do with wood, trees, the outdoors, etc… most likely not ballet, soccer, etc. Generally speaking, the preacher was referring to the things that you seem to be able to do quite well, things that come easily to you, without the kind of effort that most people have to apply. Sometimes these things are so easy for us that we refuse to believe that the general population can’t do them with the same ease – hence we totally ignore this very important clue.
Secondly: if people always seem to approach you for help with a particular kind of task or problem (even people who don’t really know you that well), then it is highly likely that others have notice that you have a gift in that regard, even when you may not have noticed it yourself.
As I thought about these things and began to observe myself and the kinds of problems people tended to come to me for help with, I gradually began to see a pattern.
These pointers have played a huge role in helping me realize the gifts that I have been specifically endowed with (and hence my purpose) and I hope they help other readers who may be struggling to figure out their purpose.

Most times we tend to think what comes easily to us is easy for everyone too and so when we are figuring out our gifts/talents/passion, we tend to look past those things but what if these ‘things’ are several and do not fit any one particular calling or role?🤔
For instance, personally if I observe carefully, people tend to share their personal struggles with me and I end up encouraging them. Another area where people seek my help a lot too is with medication obviously because I’m a legal drug dealer. I’m still trying to figure out what my purpose is and I pray that as i keep seeking God for it, He’ll bring me to it.
